How to UPDATE or ADD New Maps to your Sat Nav GPS


Garmin maps are simple .img files. So updating those files or copying and pasting becomes easy. Sometimes there are some locked files in your maps folder but there are tools to open them too.
There is a option to purchase maps online from Garmin store but make sure this purchase may cost for you. There are different updates available online when you purchasing maps, one is single update and another is life time updates. If your GPS has LMT at your GPS description than updates will be available for free.
There are some steps below which lead you to get updates for free.
STEP 1
Buy a Cable and Connect your Sat Nav
You need to connect your GPS device to computer. To perform this step you need a USB cable. Particular USB cable of GPS will be good or you can use other USB too.
STEP 2
FIND YOUR MAPS
Most used maps are Open Street Map.  These maps are free and can be updated by users across the world. Make your maps in .img format so that it will be easy for you to find them. Select your maps, when you find 0ne map that you need, click on the provider column. Only make sure that it says yes in prompted column. You can choose country as per your needs.
Your browser will start downloading a zip file. The file may be of large space so you must need a fast internet connection to done step.
·        Go to open street maps.
·        Choose predefined country as per your residence.
·        Click downloads maps now.
·        Select only the file .zip to download.
·        Unzip the file above.
·        Copy this unzip file to your SD card.
STEP 3
COPY MAPS TO YOUR SAT NAV
There are two options that you have while copying maps over SatNav. You can store them to SatNav’s inbuilt memory or you can use external SD card.
1.       USE SATNAV INBUILT MEMORY
                               You can simply copy and paste your file to SatNav. When you connect your device to computer, it automatically appears as an additional drive. You can remove some files and replace applications to install maps.
2.    USE EXTERNAL SD CARDS
                             If you don’t want to remove or expel files from SatNav, you can use an external memory card. Just create a folder Garmin and copy you .img format files. SD card size will be depend on your data.
STEP 4
CHECK YOUR NEW MAP IN YOUR SATNAV
To check if map was copied and ready to use, follow the steps listed below.
·        Disconnect your SatNav from the computer.
·        Turn it on and click on tools.
·        Click on option settings, then on Map, and then on Map info.
